Q+A

What did you create Corona on?

It was created in Ableton with a some sounds from splice and a handful of virtual instruments.

What is your biggest
source of musical inspiration?

Anything with some sort of funk or bounce or an energy that makes you want to move. There’s nothing better than a good dance party.

How did you collab with Maja Martini during quarantine, did you break social distancing rules for the
sake of art?

I did not break social distancing! Thankfully the internet lets us be super connected even tho we’re all in quarantine. Maja was actually in Norway. I made the song one afternoon and put a little preview of it on an Instagram story and asked if anyone wanted to collaborate. A few people reached out but I wanted to work with Maja because were such good friends so she said she’d do some vocals. I sent her an rough version of the song and she sent back vocals that day. A few hours later I mastered the track and it was done!

“There’s nothing better than a good dance party.”

How did you learn to DJ?

In high school I worked for a small Dj company that did all of the weddings, school dances, and events all around Ohio. They had an old set of turntables that no one really used because everyone was using cd’s back then. I asked to borrow them and I’ve had them ever since! There was a guy who worked at the company who was a few years older than me who sort of took me under his wing and taught me the ropes. He eventually joined the marines and passed his record collection down to me and that’s really when I got super into it. I was about 15 at the time and I’m 31 now so I’ve been playing tunes for about 16 years. I guess I’ve been doing it more than half my life now! Damn I’m old!
How have you found DJing live? Do you find its been unifying? Do you think you’ll keep doing it after the quarantine is over?

Well there’s usually 7 ppl watching at most and my mom is always one of them but I have the turntables in my apartment now and I’d be doing it anyway so I figured I might as well give the live thing a shot! It is cool to see my friends chatting with eachother in there, some who live across the country and probably wouldn’t chat otherwise so that makes me feel good. Anything that can provide a bit of “togetherness” while we’re all alone is worth doing in my opinion. As long as I have the turntables at home I’ll keep doing live streams!
